Neighborhood Beautification: Our Blooms are Fading Fast
We aren’t going to beat around the bushes: we need your help to keep the flower beds beautiful. Since 2018, Peacock Floral has been under contract for the upkeep and maintenance of the shrubbery and flower beds at intersections throughout the neighborhood and on Cherokee Boulevard. This service has been the largest line item in the KP-SHA budget . . . and it just got bigger!
Over the years KP-SHA has contracted with several different landscape firms and none have maintained the quality of service as Peacock. Due to the rising costs of everything associated with the landscape maintenance business, the annual cost to KP-SHA for landscape maintenance has increased.
KP-SHA has a cushion in the Beautification fund to afford this service for a year or two. But for the long term, to maintain this level of service, we must increase our membership participation as well as level of contributions. Currently, less than 20% of the households in Sequoyah Hills are members of KP-SHA. The alternative is to begin taking out the shrub beds on Cherokee Boulevard and returning those areas to grass which the City will mow.
It’s been over 10 years since our community raised funds for the professional design and implementation of a total landscape plan for Cherokee Boulevard. It was understood that we could not afford the maintenance of shrub beds along the Boulevard. Instead, the plan was for neighborhood volunteers to be responsible for the upkeep of these areas. That plan worked for a long time. Then those original volunteers “aged out” so to speak and dedicated new volunteers were less in numbers. Thus, the need for a professional service for the bulk of the beds. Please do your part and become a member or make a donation.
