Our Neighborhood in Quarantine Times

During these unprecedented times, our neighbors have found ways to support one another and keep our spirits lifted.

One neighbor coordinates food trucks once a week, helping these businesses and providing a nice break from our usual quarantine menus. Many neighbors have sewn fabric masks for the non-sewing population. Do you need starter for your newfound bread baking interest? Because our seasoned bread bakers have helped neighbors with free sourdough starter! Others have placed teddy bears in their windows, to give children a little something to look for on their walks and rides. Some have offered to pick-up groceries and medicine for at-risk populations. We all rejoiced when the Plaid Apron opened for curbside takeout. Neighbors have supported enterprising young folks with new business ideas – we are looking at you, carpenter bee trap builder! How about the driveway science fair on Nokomis? And who could forget the Vol Piper, who filled our streets with the music of bagpipes while raising money for Second Harvest?

During this time of so many unknowns, one thing is certain, there are big hearts in this ‘hood.
