Labor Day Picnic 2024

Be sure to reserve Labor Day, September 2, 2024, for our annual neighborhood picnic.  As a member of the Sequoyah Hills Neighborhood you are invited to help celebrate the end of summer and help build a stronger community.  Note the new picnic time of 5:00pm-7:00pm.  Festivities will be located on the Link-House baseball fields on Cherokee Blvd.  The actual address is 1214 Cherokee Blvd.  This year promises to be filled with multiple enhancements from our past Labor Day Picnics.

Primarily, for the comfort of our neighbors, we have reserved a large tent to shield the sun and create a space for family and friends. It will be a perfect spot for gathering with neighbors to share a meal or just talk and catch up.  We ask that you bring your own chairs and blankets for your comfort.

Entertainment this year will be provided by the award-winning bluegrass band, TRUE BLUE, founded by Banjo player Jack Hatfield.  Jack is best known as a teacher and author, writing for Banjo Newsletter magazine and publishing dozens of banjo books with Hatfield Music.  He taught for almost 20 years before moving in 1990 to Dollywood theme park in Pigeon Forge. He was band leader for Dolly Parton’s sister Freida. When Frieda left Dollywood, his band, TRUE BLUE, became the official Dollywood staff bluegrass band. Jack also performed regularly with mandolin great Red Rector and did a stint with Lawrence Welk cast members Ava Barber and Dick Dale at their Pigeon Forge theater.

Other members of True Blue are Garret Gregg (Banjo, Guitar) of Maryville, Jay Lloyd (Mandolin, Fiddle) of Knoxville, and Jason Stats (Bass) of Knoxville.

In addition to a bluegrass band, we plan to offer balloon artists and face painting to entertain the kids.  We’ve got a kick-ball tournament planned and we’re offering food trucks and Pelican Snow Cones.  AND don’t forget to enter our BEST NEIGHBORHOOD DESSERT CONTEST. So, bring your appetite and neighborhood spirit to meet and greet new and long-time neighbors.

The Picnic is open to all residents of Sequoyah Hills Neighborhood.  As always, we would appreciate renewing your membership, becoming a new member, or giving a donation.  Check-in will be at the Entrance Membership Desk at the Link-House Ballfield.  Check/Cash only, no credit cards.  Or CLICK the link below to become a KPSHA Member.  Thank you to residents who have already paid membership dues for 2024.
